Horrible on-line experience
On August 6th, I ordered a college flag. After not receiving the order after two weeks, I called Customer Support.
I was told the order was sent to Page, AZ and not Panama City, FL. I was told the order would be going out that day. After several days and no package, I called Customer Support and was told the new order was never placed. I was told the newest order would be overnight shipped to my house and I should have it in two days.
Overnight?
2 days? If you can't get a simple flag shipped, how can anyone expect to receive an order with more than one item.

They advertised a Taurus PT111 9mm pistol and get a get a 22 heritage revolver free. Me and my buddies all head to academy after work to find that they are all sold out and that they quit signing the rain checks at 4:00pm.
Already reached the 5,000 limit. So if I didn't work then I could have bought as many as I wanted. But someone who works every day and rushes over after a hard day to spend some of their hard earned money is SOL.
But all is LEGAL with your "while quantities last" statement. That still doesn't make it right!

So i called the Academy sports in hoover bama to see if they have the tarus 9m and get a 22 revolver for free at the price of $289. They said no but we are issuing rain checks.
I ask for how long will you be doing the rain checks. He said all the way through june the 20th. This was a Thursday so i get over there first thing Saturday. No we are out.
Ok i would like a rain check. No we are out. So i talk to a manager who said yeah we cant get you a rain. We are out of gun.
So i called corporate and i was told that the Birmingham store has it. So does the Trustville location. Thank you. So i called both stores and guess what.
We dont have it. I felt like i was lied to from the beginning all the way through the whole disappointing experience. So i drive to Marks Outdoors in hoover. Guess what.
They have the same gun for $199 but no free 22 revolver. Thats a $90 saving for this nice 9mm. Yeah i bought it. Your revolvers is not free and you lied to me.
I will always thank twice before entering a academy sports. Might not ever.

I ordered a pair of basketball shoes and received a used and worn pair of shoes. There were pebbles on the bottom of the sole, marks, and dirty insoles. This is just terrible
Returned items to academy sports and they put my refund on a merchandise credit card (231.34) and went to use the card 2 days later and there was no money on it...

Preferred solution: inform the consumers of what delivery means, ie to your parking lot only, and that assembly may require more than one person, or how about offer to assemble it and not refund the whole thing

Fraudulent charge on my credit card...Academy dropped the ball
My debit card was compromised and used to make a purchase from Academy.com. I caught the charge as it was "pending" to my account.
I called my bank and they told me to call Academy. I did. I was put on hold forever. When the rep returned, she said, "That item is out for delivery on a UPS or FedEx truck (she couldn't specify which) but I will call the driver right now and ask him to return the item to us at which time we will issue you a credit." I said, "Wait, no, I did not order the item.
This is a fraudulent charge and I want to be refunded immediately." She said, "Let me check with the driver and I will call you right back." That was 5 hours ago. I call b.s.
Online shopping experience horrors!
My husband ordered three items on Black Friday and paid for the order using Pay Pal. Part of the order arrived and after two weeks, I called to check on the remaining items on the order.
First phone call with Academy after a 25 minute wait time, was that there was an issue receiving the payment from Pay Pal, even though the first item had not issue. I called Pay Pal and logged into our account online. I could see the pending payment to Academy had been approved and was assigned a transaction number. Pay Pal said that they had authorized payment and so had our underlying American Express card and they were waiting for Academy to process the order and get the money.
Second phone call to Academy after another 20 minute wait time, am told that they were behind on shipping some Black Friday orders. I mentioned what I was told during the first call and she verifies that was indeed the case. Pay Pal had said all they needed was for Academy to do was run the order again and it would pay. The person at Academy told me she was going to talk to a supervisor and call me back.
She did call me back and told me the supervisor was cancelling our order because they hadn't gotten the payment and they would not try to run it again. I explained that I didn't feel this was fair because I hadn't received any notification of an issue with the order and now they were just going to cancel it. I also explained we had ordered at a Black Friday price and I didn't want to be penalized for a system glitch. She said she would talk to the supervisor again and call me back and see if they could take the order over the phone and match the price.
That was three days ago. I then received a notification email that they had cancelled the item and asking for our input. SO, I responded to the email with basically what I have typed above this. That was also three days ago.
Moral of the story is that Academy doesn't seem to care about taking care of customers or providing decent customer service when there is an issue. Won't be shopping there any more.

Treadmill disappointment
Bought a treadmill at the Mt. Juliet store.
Of course a second party would deliver and assemble. Academy took no responsibility for their vendor. 3 to 5 days turned into 10. Cost me 50 extra dollars for stairs.
Would not take the box it came in, left it to me to dispose of, worse of ALL, it was broken. We will come back with the parts to fix by Monday or Tuesday. OF COURSE it is Tuesday and I have called 3 times. NOTHING.
At this point I am just pissed and will never buy from the ACADEMY sport store again. OH, yea they marked up my walls and I had to paint the walls...which I would be OK with if my Treadmill worked.
